From Friday 16th until Sunday 18th April, 24 club members enjoyed a bridge playing weekend at the Belsfield Hotel at Bowness. Some members went on two six mile walks along Windermere and Elterwaters’ banks, enjoying the wonderful panorama of colour and the majesty of the fells, hearing a variety of bird calls, and watching an idiot attempting and failing to drive his four-track up through impossible scree. Other members went sightseeing to Ruskins House, Brantwood, shopping at Lakeland plastics and playing golf.
In the evenings, after a fine dinner, six tables were occupied and Mitchell competitions occurred. A substantial number of members received prizes. Thanks were expressed to Shaune Chapman who had organised the whole programme. There has been considerable interest in repeating the event next year and members need to contact Shaune if they are attracted to the experience.
